Focus

These initiatives are intentionally connected and support one common vision:

• Expand leadership opportunities.

• Strengthen school culture through positive relationships.

• Create connections across grade levels.

• Ensure every student has opportunities to be acknowledged, accepted, appreciated, and paid attention to.

Plans and Inititiatves

1. Do No Harm: Expanding a Student-Led Culture of Belonging

Our goal is to continue growing Do No Harm as more than a campaign. It is becoming a shared mindset that shapes how students interact with one another throughout the district. This year, we will intentionally expand student leadership opportunities and increase the initiative's visibility across all grade levels.

Key Initiative: Do No Harm Student Conference

The Do No Harm Student Conference will bring together student leaders from across the region for a day of learning, collaboration, and action. Designed and led by students, the conference will provide opportunities to:

• Share successful school-based initiatives.

• Engage in meaningful conversations around respect, empathy, belonging, and inclusion.

• Develop student leadership skills through interactive workshops.

• Build partnerships with neighboring schools committed to creating positive school cultures.

Vision: Position North Hills as a regional leader in student voice and school culture.

2. Building a District-Wide Mentoring Network

Relationships remain one of the strongest protective factors for students. This year we will intentionally expand mentoring opportunities to strengthen connections between students at every level.

Expanding Mentor Opportunities

Our mentoring efforts will connect:

• High school students with middle school students.

• High school students with elementary students.

• Middle school students with elementary students when appropriate.

Students will serve as role models while developing leadership, communication, and empathy skills.

We're also exploring additional elementary leadership opportunities that introduce concepts of kindness, responsibility, and inclusion at an early age.

3. Growing Do No Harm Through Elementary Learning

This year, I will continue working directly with students in Grades 3-5 to deliver age-appropriate Do No Harm lessons that reinforce:

• Empathy

• Respect

• Positive decision-making

• Conflict resolution

• Inclusive behaviors

These lessons will help establish common expectations and language that students will continue to build upon as they progress through middle and high school.

4. Expanding Diversity and Global Connections

Creating belonging means ensuring every student feels seen, valued, and represented.

Diversity Club

The Diversity Club will continue expanding its impact by:

• Celebrating cultural heritage months.

• Highlighting student voices.

• Increasing student-led awareness campaigns.

• Sharing celebrations through district communication and social media.

Global Minds

Global Minds will provide students opportunities to:

• Learn about cultures around the world.

• Discuss current global issues.

• Build cross-cultural understanding.

• Celebrate the diversity within North Hills.

ELL Connection

A new initiative connecting middle school and high school multilingual learners to:

• Ease the transition into high school.

• Build peer relationships.

• Introduce extracurricular opportunities.

• Increase confidence through mentorship and shared experiences.

Students will engage in conversations, activities, and leadership opportunities designed to strengthen belonging while encouraging participation in athletics, clubs, and school events.

5. Strengthening Student Leadership Through Athletics (SALT)

The Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) will continue expanding its influence beyond athletics by connecting with younger students and promoting leadership throughout the district.

High School and Middle School PE Connection

SALT students will partner with middle school PE classes to:

• Lead team-building activities.

• Model sportsmanship.

• Encourage positive relationships.

• Share leadership messages centered around perseverance, respect, and character.

Middle School Student Athlete Panel

Current high school student-athletes will participate in panel discussions with middle school students to discuss:

• Preparing for high school athletics.

• Balancing academics and athletics.

• Leadership expectations.

• Building confidence and resilience.

This provides younger students with authentic insight from peers who have recently navigated the same transition.

Athletic Alumni and Guest Speaker Series

We are exploring opportunities to reconnect former North Hills student-athletes with current students.

Former athletes and guest speakers will share:

• Their experiences after high school.

• College, career, military, and workforce pathways.

• Lessons learned through athletics.

• Leadership, perseverance, and personal growth.

This initiative reinforces that athletics develop skills that extend well beyond competition.
